Potty Training Both My Kids After 2 — What Really Worked (and What Didn’t)

Potty training is one of those parenting milestones that looks simple from the outside… until you’re actually in it. I trained both my kids around 2–2.8, and even though they were close in age, their journeys were different. One was smooth and straightforward. The other required patience, creativity, and a whole lot of emotional energy.

I don’t believe in the whole “girls are easier, boys are harder” narrative. I’ve heard it all, but I believe its just a matter of readiness, personality, and temperament. Every child is different.

In this guide, I’m sharing the full story of how I potty trained both my kids — what worked, what failed, the tricks that saved me, the mental load, the night training, the school‑readiness piece, and the things I wish someone had told me earlier.

This blog post is just a short preview. To read the complete guide, including:

  • My exact step‑by‑step method
  • How I prepared myself, the kids, and the house
  • The blue potty that changed everything
  • The tricks that actually worked
  • Night training strategy
  • School readiness
  • How to stay calm when it gets overwhelming
  • Links to shows, books, products, articles & printables
  • And all the lessons I learned after training two kids

We finally did Georges Island Tour… one of the most historic defence points in the harbour. It was such perfect Weather.
Halifax ka chhota sa island, lekin tunnel system kafi gehra.

Purane zamane ke defence tunnels — thanday, narrow, aur fascinating. 🧐 built in the 1800s, once used by soldiers to find refuge beneath the fort.

Honestly bohot yaadgar day trip.
Kabhi kabhi bas ek simple tour bhi dil ko refresh kar deta hai.

Weather was beautiful, the tour was simple, and the history was surprisingly deep.
Sometimes the smallest islands hold the biggest stories.

Booking info:
We booked the official Parks Canada tour via Ambassatours. Tickets were approx $25 per person for the round‑trip ferry & island access inc tunnel tour.
August was beautiful. 😻 Alhamdulilah.
