Crossing the bridge always reminds me that this city has survived the unimaginable.
The 1917 explosion changed everything â but it also revealed the strength of Halegonians (Halifaxâs people).
The Halifax Explosion happened on December 6, 1917.
The French ship SS MontâBlanc, loaded with explosives, collided with the Norwegian ship SS Imo in the Narrows.
The blast destroyed the city, killed nearly 2,000 people, and injured over 9,000.
Halifax rebuilt â stronger, kinder, and forever changed.
