I just finished this incredible book ‘The sun and her flowers’ by Rupi Kaur. I absolutely loved reading it and finished it within two days. It is a collection of poetry about grief, self-abandonment, honoring ones roots, love and empowering oneself. It is split into five chapters, wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming.
Rupi Kaur is 25 years old and belongs to a Sikh Indian family who immigrated to Canada when she was 4. The Sun and Her Flowers consists of poems that celebrate all the forms of love, with most of the poems accompanied by a doodle. This book explores a variety of themes ranging from loss, trauma, healing, femininity, migration and revolution.
While reading it, I could so relate to some of the words. They spoke right to my heart. She talks about taboo topics of our society beautifully. Her first book Milk & Honey was very well received too. Its theme was violence, abuse, love, loss, and feminism. Have you read it yet?
